While there are many fashion trends from 2014 we’d be happy to leave behind, others, like frayed denim, utilitarian-style jumpsuits and faux fur still feel relevant today (or perhaps they’ve just come back around again?).
Ahead we revisit some of our favourite street style looks from 2014. They’re the looks that defined the year and the looks we’re still turning to for inspo today. Let us know what you’d wear again today?
Alexa Chung
For Chanel’s show at Paris Fashion Week in September 2014, Alexa Chung wore a grey mini skirt, high-neck white top and black blazer. The outfit’s simplicity lets the shoes, black with string ankle ties and open heels, be the focus. She completed the outfit with a timeless black Chanel handbag.
Chung wore baggy white overalls over a white shirt with black Birkenstock Arizona sandals in London in September 2014. Her necklace was Chanel while her bag was shaped like half a flower in fuzzy material.
Rihanna
Rihanna wore a bright blue coat with light blue skinny jeans and grey heels in December 2014 in New York City.
Nicole Warne Shadbolt
In 2014, Nicole Warne Shadbolt was still fashion blogging at Gary Pepper Girl. For the Ellery show at Australian Fashion Week 2014, held at Bondi Icebergs Dining Room, she wore a fuzzy jumper off one shoulder with a structured silk skirt and blue high heels.
Samantha Harris
For the launch of the short film festival Flickerfest at Bondi Icebergs in December 2014, Samantha Harris went for a form-fitting black mini dress and black heels. The only accessories she added were two gold rings and a bold red lip.
Margaret Zhang
In September 2014, when this photo was taken, Margaret Zhang was still posting on her blog Shine By Three. Zhang wore dark blue track pants and a light blue button-up shirt for the Karen Walker show at New York Fashion Week. She accessorised with a silver necklace emblazoned ‘Love’, white heels and a black bag.
Chloe Sevigny
For a 2014 summer party in New York City, actress Chloe Sevigny wore this high-neck mini dress with a houndstooth print. Remember these shoes? The chokehold they had on all of us.
Christine Centenera
Christine Centenera, today the editor of Vogue Australia, wore a black fuzzy Valentino dress with tights and black Alaia shoes at Paris Fashion Week in March 2014.
At a dinner ahead of Paris Fashion Week in February 2014, Centenera wore a white mini dress with utilitarian-style double buttons over a full-length black skirt. She finished the look with black closed-toe heels and a thick black choker necklace.
Cara Delevingne and Sienna Miller
In April 2014, Cara Delevingne and Sienna Miller were snapped holding hands outside London club Lou Lou’s. Delevingne wore a silky romper with a sparkly jacket and platform high heels, while Miller wore a bedazzled silver dress with peep-toe ankle boots.
Jessica Hart
Melbourne-born Jessica Hart attended a Michael Kors fashion show in New York City in September 2014. For the show, the model wore a light grey turtleneck, dark grey slacks and black heels with a chrome toe accent.
