Each month, POPSUGAR Australia’s Lifestyle Editor Sangeeta Kocharekar shares the fashion pieces she’s eyeing or buying. Note that POPSUGAR has affiliate and advertising partnerships so we might get revenue from your purchase.

Recently, I came across a TikTok of an American creator sharing: “I’ve been trying to shop for summer, I found this [Australian] brand and then, all of a sudden, all these Australian brands are popping up in ads. Their stuff is so freaking cute”.

I sent the clip to my American friend who’d visited me in Sydney. “Yes, Australian brands are the best!”, she wrote back. The outside perspective of Australian fashion made me realise how original and trend-setting our homegrown brands’ designs are.

Ahead, I’m rounding up some of my favourite “freaking cute” clothing pieces I’ve worn and re-worn this month. From a white fleece you can dress up or down, to a pair of bamboo-material pyjamas with white trim that’ll have you feeling like you have your life together, these are the fashion picks I’m recommending this April.

Zulu & Zephyr Chilli Pink Knit Short, $180

I knew these shorts would be comfy, but I didn’t think they would fit as well as they do on me. The waistband is stretchy material so it doesn’t dig into my mid-section. I’ve been wearing the shorts with its matching Plum Contrast Rib Knit Jumper ($400), but you could also wear it with an oversized tee or another jumper. If you want to test the fit and you’re Sydney-based, the brand just opened a store in Bondi.

Nike Sportswear Modern Fleece, $130

Unfortunately, the black checkmark version of the fleece I own is sold out, but I love this white version too. Everyone needs a white fleece in their wardrobe — it’s such a versatile piece that you can dress up with jewellery and heels or down with activewear.

Kulani Kinis Ruched Underwire Bra Bikini Top, $69

I think the loudness of the colour of this bikini top is balanced with its soft details, like ribbed material, ruched tie neckline and underwire. I like that the ties adjust the cups’ fit, changing how the top looks on me. To tone down the bold colour, I’d keep the rest of the outfit white or cream.

Shona Joy Hele Balloon Sleeve Shirt, $240

I predict this autumn and winter, I’ll be wearing the outfit combo of a vest over a button-up often. This shirt is ideal for that combo, with the volume in its sleeves, oversized cuffs and seersucker material, meaning it doesn’t get lost underneath a vest.

Cozy Earth Long Sleeve Bamboo Pajama Set, now $288, was $360

I feel fancy and like I have my life together when I slip on this pyjama set with white trim before bed. The bamboo material is super soft on the skin and traps the heat, which I know will be great in winter to keep warm. The brand Cozy Earth is American, but it ships to Australia.

Arms Of Eve Sweetheart Gold Earrings Large, $89

I haven’t taken these gold, heart-shaped earrings off in the last two weeks — they go with every outfit, adding a feminine detail. They’re 2cm wide and 14k gold-plated.

Saint Laurent SL 462 Sulpice 001, $660

I acknowledge these sunnies are a splurge and might be out of budget for many. That said, if you can afford this pair, it’ll be a piece you’ll have forever, maybe even passing them down to your kids one day. The frame style and thickness of the bands are timeless, so the sunnies will never go out of style.
